Beach Morning Glory (Ipomoea pes-caprae)

Ezekiel 47:12 "And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine."

Nicknames: Beach Morning Glory(Ipomoea pes-caprae); Bayhops, Bay-hops, Railroad vine, or "goat's foot";[4] "salsa-da-praia"[5]

Classification:

Plant Family: Convolvulaceae; Genius: Ipomoea; Species: I. pes-caprae (L. Ipomoea biloba Forssk.)

Properties/Medicinal Benefits: Beach Morning Glory(Ipomoea pes-caprae) is used on skin for inflammation.[1] In Thailand it has been proven safe in clinical trials, and it is sold in drug stores.[1] rheumatism, colic, oedema, whitlow, and piles.[4] A lot of Ipomoea strains contain psychedelic LSA, but it doesn't appear that this one does.(that I can find through research)

Mixes well with: Unclear. I'm not familiar with this plant. I offer original observations on here, and try my best to share original disucssions.

Phytochemicals: The expected and widely common: alkaloids, phenols, steroids, tannins, & flavonoids in leaf and stem.[2] Also: eicosanyl-trans-p-coumarate, stigmasterol, β-sitosterol, β- amyrin, 6-hydroxy stigmasta-4,22-dien-3-one[3] Also: quercetin-3-O-galactoside, quercetin-3-O-glucoside, and quercetin 3-O-glucoside were isolated from the plant by phytochemist as well.[5] glycosidic resins, coumarins, and triterpenes[5]

All of these are documented on academic databases like PubChem and Google Scholar. I link to them at the bottom of every page. [ Note this is not all of them that exist within the plant, and I never claim to cover every one of them. I try to get as many as possible listed though. ]

Quick note: Usually plants in this genus and family produce lysergic-acid-amide(LSA), but it doesn't appear that this one does. Very unusual. It looks a lot different than other Morning Glory strains, and only thrives in sandy/salty locations near the beach. The leaves have a unique shaped compared to other strains.

Warnings: This plant may be endangered, and when foraging and harvesting from the wild, an old Native American rule that I admire states "Only harvest 30% of what you find, or less, to protect the species and out of respect for future generations."

Natural habitat: Beaches; It is a salt tolerant plant, allowing it to thrive near salt water locations[2]. It's used commonly in Australia, Brazil, The Philippines.[4]

Investigative note: Edens Ethnobotanicals helped supply researchers(scholars) with rare plants used by indigenous cultures. A note on their website back in the day read "We only sell our products to businesses, researchers and universities. We do NOT sell to the general public and enforce and anti-online sales policy." I believe this is why he was illegally raided by the government ( for legally importing and selling a legal product that people across the country import daily with no problems ) The socialist in government are targeting people they hate, and seeking to steal their legal products, ruin their legit businesses, and then turn around and pretend to be the people they hate and wrongfully destroy. It looks like a lot of discrimination is going on, and sadly a lot of it is being done by Christians. We live in a country that has religious freedom, and a lot of people have the religious right to use plants that the rest of us are not allowed to. I hope to help researchers, activist, and entrepaneurs, learn about, market, and import, new plants to the world, so that scientist can get on board, study them, and we can continue to back up herbal medicine, and call out the serpent medical deception going on today. The drug war is a fraud run by the serpent. In the end, big pharma wants to sell everyone legal psychedelics and vending machine crack, and that's where this is going.

LSA Content: I tried to find academic sources online to confirm this strain specifically contained LSA/ergot constituents, but could not find any data suggesting it. I have found non-credible sources to suggest this, but I checked their sources and found no confirmation. You know you can buy lsd reaction test kits online. It wouldn't be hard to do a simple science experiment and test some varieties to determine whether or not they are symbiotic with the ergot fungus(to see if they test positive for LSD/LSA/Ergot and its derivatives). It is unclear to me specifically whether the seeds actually produce these components theirselves, or if it is merely the symbiotic nature of the plants and the fungi. According to Clay, from Tulane University however, "Our study is the first to show how highly coevolved morning glories and their symbiotic fungi are, and that coevolution is manifested by different mixtures and concentrations of ergot alkaloids acorss the morning glory evolutionary tree."[6] The researchers found that 25% of over 200 species tested, contained ergot alkaloids, and thus were therefore found to be symbiotic with one another. Clay goes on to say, "The symbiosis and ergot alkaloids are specific to particular branches of the morning glory evolutionary tree, and each branch contains different ergot alkaloids and alkaloid mixtures". This would explain why the potency of the HBWR and Ololiuhqui seeds sold online varies greatly.. It would be fascinating to see published on YouTube, scientist testing various Ipomoea strains for Ergot fungi...

Harm Reduction Note: Please don't assume that because this plant is medicinal, that any other morning glory that looks similar to it may be. There are so many varieties in this family, and some are quite toxic. The pharmacology varies greatly. Identifying plants in the wild is serious business, and a simple mistake can cost one their life.

Ipomoea strains note: Other strains of Ipomoea contain psychedelic components related to ergot.
