Ezekiel 47:12 "And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine."

Nicknames: Rhodiola; Golden root, rose root, roseroot, Aaron's rod, Arctic root, king's crown, lignum rhodium, orpin rose;[1]

Classification: Adaptogen; This is what is is mostly known for too. I did some academic digging and found the scientific proof that it works, and how it works. Read further to learn more.

Plant Family: Crassulaceae; Genus: Rhodiola; Species: R. rosea;[1]

Ethnobotany: Rhodiola is known for stimulating the nervous system, decreasing depression, enhancing work performance, eliminating fatigue, and preventing high altitude sickness.[2]

Natural Habitat: Europe (including Britain), Asia, and North America;[1]

OG Observations: The FDA doesn't like this stuff.

Rhodiola Medicinal Uses & Phytochemistry: Rhodiola has been scientifcally proven to increase resistance to a variety of chemical, biological, and physical stressors.[2] This type of drug is known as an adaptogen.[3] In one source that I cite it states that this plant is similar to Eleutherococcus senticosus(Siberian ginseng).[2] The stimulating and adaptogenic properties of this plant are said by scientist to be mainly attributed to p-tyrosol and the phenolic glycoside rhodioloside.[2] It also produces rhodioniside, rhodiolin, rosin, rosavin, rosarin, and rosiridin, which are all types of glycosides..[2] They too play a huge role in the plants adaptogenic properties.[2] More pharmacological components of the plant include: gallic acid, caffeic acid, and chlorogenic acid, and flavonoids like catechins and proanthocyanidins.[2] With these facts in mind, and considering that each one of these individual components produces a wide range of pharmacological activity, this plant is more of a pharmacy than a single drug(or medicine). It's more like a soup of medicines, rather than one medicine, in other words. Pretty cool right? Gods medicine is far more complex and superior to that of the serpent on the side of the ambulance. I want to encourage everyone to grow their own during these times.

Pharmacological actions of p-Tyrosol: Keep in mind please that this p-Tyrosol is just one tiny pharmacological component of an entire soup full of medicines, that exist naturally within the Rhodiola supplement.. In vivo studies have proven that p-Tyrosol has a significant anti-oxidant and modest 5-lipoxygenase inhibitory activity.[2] Oxidative stress is bad for cells, so just think of anti-oxidants as cell protectors.[xfind one] Question: What is 5-lipoxygenase inhibitory activity? Answer: "5-Lipoxygenase is the first enzyme in a series involved in the conversion of arachidonic acid to the family of leukotrienes. The inhibition of this enzyme therefore decreases leukotriene production without adversely influencing cyclooxygenase-based prostaglandin production"[3] This only raises more questions, I know. We can see how complex the pharmacological actions of these plants are. One who knows them well scientifically, has the potential to be a very skilled herbal physician. The answer to why you would want to inhibit leukotriene production is because the act of doing so helps in preventing bronchoconstriction, mucus secretion, and oedema, thus making the herb useful in dealing with ailments related to the respiratory system.[4] Keep in mind these are just what propertions and actions f p-Tyrosol that I'm discussing in this lengthy paragraph... It makes me wonder, how much P-tyrosol is in Rhodiola? It states in one of the studies that I cite that it's one of the components responsible for its adaptogenic properties, so.. Perhaps the inhibition of this leukotriene has something to do with it. I did some digging to find out that "Inhibition of leukotriene C4 reduces levels of oxidative stress and apoptosis and demonstrates beneficial effects on myocardial remodeling"[5] To answer your next question, myocardial remodeling is: "Cardiac remodeling is defined as a group of molecular, cellular and interstitial changes that manifest clinically as changes in size, mass, geometry, etc.."[6] So this helps to understand how this herb helps protect our bodies from stress! We can see this mechanism of action and how it actively HELPS the body DEFEND/PREVENT against damge caused from stress!

Pharmacological actions of Rhodioloside: After everything you just read on the first phytochemical, and it was only 1% of what's out there, I haven't even gotten started on the second one yet... It's called Rhodioloside When I read the scientific fact that I am about to share with you all, it resonated. I have used Rhodiola, and notice effects. I try not to take it too often, but feel rejuvinated after doing so. It seems to help me sleep better(my own observation). Studies show that: "Rhodioloside has antiaging and antioxidant properties, and inhibits calcium overloading in cells"[7] The consensus is clear, this botanical clearly has scientifically demonstrated beneficial properties to human biology and health. This is why my interest in medicine stops at homemade full spectrum herbal concoctions rather than crappy synthethic serpent medical drugs(big pharma). Plants just make the best medicine imo. Some more miraculous findings that scientist have discovered in regards to the medicinal abilities of Rhodiola herb is that is Rhodioloside has been shown to protect cells from hypoxia injury.[8] Hypoxis is your cells not getting enough oxygen.
